Joe Willie Smith My present work primarily involves capturing intrinsic resonance inherent in various materials, metals, wood, glass, plastic and fibers. I make ‘Sonic Sculptures’ from these materials. I use Piezo microphones to amplify the sculptures. ‘Datura’ is a realization of a musical inquiry into the far reaches of sound, continuing in the spirit of groups I’ve had the honor of performing with, Ammsia Quartet, 444 Experiment, Off Axis and the House Band at Metropophobobia.

My work is in three permanent collections: The Phoenix Art Museum, Taller Experimental De Graphica and The Butler Museum of American Art. Recent performances: Recycled Orchestra collaboration, Music Instrument Museum; Amnesia Quartet, The Ice House; and Typing Pool, Artel/Phx .
