DATURA in an Improvisation for Sound, Music, and Movement workshop series
A four-part workshop series takes place April 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6-8pm, at
Mesa Arts Center, Acting Studio, One East Main St, Mesa, AZ 85201
Workshop w/ DATURA
$50 for 4 weeks
This workshop series will focus on the interdisciplinary creation and performance strategies developed by DATURA performance group. We will utilize improvisational structures for both sound, image and movement and incorporate the use of on-the-body sensors to generate sound. We encourage movement specialists, image artists as well as electronic composers to join us. Participants will experience a guided learning experience where DATURA artists will explore the creation of performance material. Areas covered include: Creating musical instruments from found recourses with Joe Willie Smith,*Sound production: hearing/coding with John D. Mitchell and Tony Obr. The focus will be on creating material for later use in interdisciplinary improvisation. The last class will include an informal performance where all participants will come together as a group to perform an improvised work based upon the material created throughout the workshop series.
